CNPP means “Carbon Neutral Print Production.” It is a way for printing companies to offer a more eco-friendly approach to creating print media. When materials are CNPP printed, the carbon emissions released during production are neutralized by carbon offsets originated by a separate provider. Most things we do in life cause the release of carbon dioxide. From turning on the lights, to driving cars and checking e-mail, carbon dioxide is being released into the atmosphere. This is referred to as a “carbon footprint.” Carbon dioxide traps harmful toxins in the air which is damaging to the environment and deteriorates the ozone layer. However, CNPP printing allows you to completely neutralize your project’s carbon footprint. So we can all breathe easy!
CNPP works in conjunction with a company called TerraPass, a carbon emissions reducing company. TerraPass works on several projects around the nation reducing large amounts of carbon dioxide and other harmful gases. When one metric ton (2,205 lbs) of carbon dioxide emissions has been successfully reduced, it is represented by something called a “carbon offset.” Each carbon offset is independently verifiable and is linked with a specific project. For CNPP, everything from the power it takes to run printing presses to the electricity used to power the facilities to the creation of paper itself is calculated1. Once this figure is computed and combined with the specific aspects of your printing job, the number of carbon offsets your job requires can been determined. All CNPP projects are individually assessed to ensure that you are receiving the exact amount of carbon offsets needed to confirm that your job is CNPP approved. Simply put, printing CNPP is about tracking the carbon footprint of your project and neutralizing it. When your product is finished, you’ll see our CNPP stamp of approval on each piece of material you have printed.
The number of carbon offsets your job requires is based on how many tons of paper are used. This number will be calculated to include the carbon footprint of all machines, manpower, and electricity, and is represented by the amount of paper you require.
